BOOK: A GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO MURDER

A GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO MURDER. Holly Jackson

"A good girl's guide to murder" is a young adult mystery novel, the first book of a series of four. It was written by Holly Jackson, and published in 2019. The book has received several awards; such as "The New York Times No. 1 bestseller", "Barnes and Noble Best Books of the Year" or "British Book Awards Children's Fiction Book Winner of the Year ".

Holly Jackson was born in 1992. She grew up in Buckinghamshire and started writing stories from a young age, completing her first attempt at a book aged fifteen. She studied literary linguistics and creative writing at the University of Nottingham. Jackson currently lives in London.

"A good girl's guide to murder" follows a crime left unsolved in the state of Connecticut. When Andie Bell was murdered five years ago, the police blamed Sal Singh, her boyfriend at the time. However, his guilt was never proven, as Sal was found dead two days after the incident. He had killed himself, which seemed proof enough for the whole town of Fairview to consider him guilty. Everybody knows he was the murderer, but Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn't so sure. When she's asked by one of her teachers to do her final-year school project, she chooses the case as the topic. As she starts to uncover secrets, she gets closer to finding the truth. Is the real killer still out there? And if he is, is Pippa safe in town? Throughout the story, Pippa will realize not everything is always as it seems.

This well-written, thrilling novel is full of twists and unexpected turns. The plot will trap you from the beginning until the very end, making you unable to put it down. Even as a crime book, the story is easy and interesting to follow. The development of the characters and their interactions have a very important role in the plot.

This is a novel I would recommend everyone. I don't usually read crime books, but I loved every page of this one. However, it is not recommended for children under 13 years old, as the book not only tells a story, but also deals with actual society issues such as racism, rape or drugs. That's what I also loved about the novel; it shows the world as it is, criticising unfair situations ignored in our daily lives.

There are three books more in this series which I can't wait to read: Good Girl, Bad Blood (2020); As Good As Dead (2021); and Kill Joy (2021).
