THE TRUTH ABOUT LIVING IN NYC

If you are like me, you probably have dreamed millions of times about moving to New York. There's just something about it. Its streets, full of live, its people, so nice and welcoming... Just like in the movies! NYC is a city full of magic and beauty, and I certainly can't see what could be wrong about it. It's all parties, going out, falling in love... Didn't Frank Sinatra call it "the city that never sleeps"? Now, if you are a normal, critical person, you will have noticed the irony. I'm not that much of a dreamer. NYC is a town like any other. It's true that it is beautiful (I still would love to be able to live there someday), but it is EXTREMELY expensive, being the sixth in the ranking of the world's most expensive cities. So apart from that amazing, fairytale-like life that characters have in movies or shows like Friends, there's the rough reality. Most New York workers have to drive at least 1-2 hours from their home to get to the city. People buy houses outside of the city, as the ones inside of it are unaffordable.

New York is a city with a population of 8,804,190 inhabitants (in April, 2020). It has an unemployment rate of 11.2% and the average salary in the city is $52,737. Job Growth in New York has been positive, as jobs have increased by 0.5% over the past year.

COST OF LIVING IN NYC

Results taken from a poll, show that: in the hypothetical case that a normal US citizen would pay $100 overall for housing, food, transportation..., in NYC he would have to pay $188 for the same resources. Whereas in the US the cost of a median home is $291,700, in New York it rises up to $654,300. Theoretically, you can live in the city with a salary of 40k, but you will need to earn at least 70k if you want to live more comfortably
